The Nelson Male Voice Choir is privileged to host the well-known Japanese Choir, Chor Farmer to Nelson. They are holding a concert at The Nelson School of Music (NCMA) on Thursday 6th September at 7:30pm

This is their 21st biennial Goodwill tour of Australia and New Zealand having started in 1977 and the tenth visit to Nelson. During that time, they have made many friends in Nelson, especially with host families and have established their performance as one not to miss in the Nelson musical calendar.

Chor Farmer was formed in 1967 at the Tokyo University of Agriculture by Mr Hiroshi Masumoto who will again conduct the choir in Nelson. They will again be accompanied by Pianist, Masako Yuyama, a graduate of Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music who regularly gives recitals as a soloist in Tokyo.

The choir itself includes graduates of the University who have been committed members of the choir for many years as well as more recent arrivals.

Chor Farmer has gained a reputation for precision and excellence, singing in many languages including Maori, English, German and, of course, Japanese and has been the winner of many prizes in choral competitions. Their repertoire includes classical music plus compositions and arrangements by Mr Masumoto who is a Schubert specialist.
